I understand that the meter was redefined in 1983 so that measured observations of the speed of light match our preexisting theoretical definition.
I do believe that science--as an ideology--is completing an arc from scrappy upstart to authoritative cult, and that we are overdue for the next scrappy upstart to disrupt that authority...
Thanks. Having to reply to my own post on my phone is weird, but at least I can do it.
It does seem pretty much everything runs in cycles. When science does get around to exploring the basic phenomena, rather than compartmentalizing everything, will open a lot of doors.
The Electric Universe is a far more rational description and explanation. Though there is more there, than my little mind can adsorb. I tend to look at the general picture and try to fit all the parts together, social, cultural, physical, cosmic, etc. The attractions and repulsions pushing and pulling everything.
As for Dark Matter, I suspect we will come to see gravity as a centripetal effect, that extends from the barest bending of the light, to the vortices at the center of galaxies, with mass as an intermediate effect, that our tactile sensibilities concentrate on. That's why there is so much more gravity, than mass to explain it.
Consider that synchronization is a centripetal effect, pulling littler waves into one larger wave. Lasers are synchronized light waves. So that while energy radiates out, the wave structure generated by it coalesces in. To the point that what isn't eventually broken down and radiated out in the process, is shot out the poles of galaxies as quasars. Which are giant lasers.
Safe to say, when the mob starts to synchronize its behavior, best radiate out to some far corner of space....
Energy=electricity. Just speculating on the dynamics of attraction/repulsion.
Especially coming from a sociological point of view. Such as attention being a lightning rod. A little is good, a lot is whiteout/meltdown.
People are electrical beings, rather than material. Materialism, particle physics is an artifact of seeing everything as objects, from atomism to individualism.
Yet keep in mind, the polarities expressed by the universe are black holes and black body radiation. The centripetal effects of attraction and the harmonizing dynamic of radiation.
So I am not a technologist, so much as a generalist. I try seeing where the range of dynamics, from the more physical, to the biological, to the sociological, to the cultural, fit in and are expressions of the overall dynamic.
I think you take science a lot more seriously than I do, when you ask, "will all the pieces come together as a coherent whole, or are there some seriously flawed premises being taken for granted?" You're willing to give time to investigating the stated parameters, and finding that the many contradictions, (both stated and hidden), don't make much sense. But we are asked to swallow all these glitches. Isn't that like life in society where we are urged to adopt a whole string of excuses, (why the rich are rich, and the poor are poor).
I relate science to sociology as the testing ground for what myths people willingly ingest. Let's take the biggest example first:
1. 13.8 billion Earthling Years ago, (let's say American years), all matter and energy resided in a tiny pinprick on the end of God's penis. At that precise moment God ejaculated, and caused all of the elements of the universe to fly off in every direction in the 3 dimensional space-time. (He used those 3 dimensions so that us poor anthropomorphizing humans could get a handle on it.) As an added bonus, all the accumulated sludge on his penis flew off and landed in the present-day scientists brains.
They got the idea if they can create a myth that is 100 times more absurd than all the previous human myths put together, and get everyone to believe it and even to finance them to keep it going, then they are assured of ruling the known world, and creating family dynasties that will live in luxury forever.
Personally I stand by the older wisdom, that God took Adam's rib to create Eve, and thus to propagate the world with their offspring. No billionaires are involved in this former story. Well, there is the Church. Let's take another one:
2. SPEED is distance traveled divided by time for arrival. The distance is measured on a fixed plane like the surface of the earth with meters. But we are told that the universe is in motion, so what is the distance that constant speed must be relative to? Our constant of "C" is about 300 million meters per second, but who's meters are these? Of course they are the meters on earth, because we have "White-Man's-Privilege".
So light traveling at the far reaches of the universe is not traveling at 300 million "meters" per second faster than, (relative to) that part of the moving universe, (which is already moving at 100 million M/S with respect to the earth). No, light must plug along at only Earthling C, based on our time and space. No wonder it gets stretched?
Basically scientists don't know the definition of speed. I think it is in the dictionary, if they want a refresher.
3. We look at wave theory through a graphical plot of amplitude vs time. The amplitude goes up and down. But in reality, waves are not a graphical plot. Therefore, there is no "wavy line". I wonder what falsification in concept that creates?
I'll end on a quote: "It used to be that when observation didn’t match prediction, the theoretical foundations of the prediction were possibly considered falsified, and not just that there was some enormous new magical force of nature."
I think that you said it in other replies, that society (and science) moves with a tremendous inertia. It cannot be deviated from, (at least in my lifetime). Stay with horses, they are the real scientists.
I realize a lot of the problems are cultural, as education is a process of one generation passing on its wisdom to the next, to add to, in a process that goes back thousands of years. So initial premises cannot be questioned, even though they go to primordial assumptions. The consequence being GIGO. Requiring ever more patches, much like a geocentric cosmology, adding epicycles.
Here are some links I've collected over the years;
This was an outstanding piece. Well done, John!

Thanks Nathan.
My comment didn't post, so seeing if the phone has been connected to me.
Nathan,

Dark Matter is BS, check out www.thunderbolts.info
Also redshift as a way to determine stellar distances.
Ditto Special & General Relativity.
The depth of the likes shames the Marianas Trench.

The "missing mass" creating the gravitational force that "dark matter" is supposed to be the fix for is simply electrical phenomena.

We seem to think similarly on this.
